Spring is a State of Mind: Surplus in Paradise
Spring is just around the corner and we’re excited to share our latest collection—Surplus in Paradise. Inspired by military utility and traditional aloha prints, and the many ways they can be worn together, we put our own fresh take on these themes to reflect a permanent vacation state of mind.
Utility has always been central at Brixton. To create our new utility surplus pieces, we explored ‘60s through early ‘70s vintage surplus and army-issued garb that exemplifies comfort and a ready-for-anything attitude. We expanded on the rugged qualities we admire most with modern updates and elevated textiles that are instantly wearable, durable and just right for today.
While these heritage-inspired pieces pair well with staples, like our classic all-season flannels and tees, the big idea this spring is layering utility surplus and neutral staples with eye-catching colors and prints. Our newest shorts, shirts and caps with our signature paradise prints are great in the mix.
The inspiration for our paradise prints is derived from early ‘50s and ‘60s classic Hawaiian prints. The iconic brands behind these vintage motifs, including Shaheen, Lolani, Champion, Royal Hawaiian and Surfrider Sportswear, considered their prints to be a form of communication and cultural expression reflecting the aloha spirit.
Our aim this season is to channel these honorable roots with fresh interpretations featuring animal-inspired details, a new take on tropical florals, abstract landscapes and unique watercolor art. All are expressive, signature options that pair exceptionally well with surplus standards.
Layering is where prints, color and utility really come together for spring. A great example is our Bunker Paradise Short-Sleeve Shirt in aloha red and white paired with a Vintage Reserve Cotton Tee and our Surplus Relaxed Pant in olive.
Or, try printed shorts or trucks with a solid shirt. We love our Surplus Short-Sleeve Cotton Shirt in sand worn as an overshirt with a Vintage Reserve Cotton Tee and our Voyage Shorts or Temple Trunks in your favorite paradise print. Another great way to mix in a print is by adding a snapback to top off any outfit.
These are just a few examples of how well our military-influenced pieces pair with the casual status of a tropical print. The real spirit of Surplus in Paradise is about having fun with your own unique combinations and enjoying the comfort of lightweight fabrics and relaxed fits that are perfect in warmer weather.
Our new spring collection celebrates versatility, comfort and function with the perfect mash-up of color and print so you’ll never get lost in the crowd.
